Great East Swim

My niece has thrown down a challenge for me: to get ‘swim fit’ in time to do a mile open water swim next June (I think). My swimming technique is (or used to be) fine and I’d knock off a mile every lunchtime in about 25 to 27 minutes but I haven’t swum for a long time… 10 years maybe. There is plenty of time to get ready but if I am going to consider doing it, I’d like to do it properly. When I used to do open water triathlons it was more difficult that doing it in a swimming pool so I would like to have lots of extra power and fitness in reserve. From what I hear about her swimming, there’s no way I could even pretend to be compete so completion in a decent time would be my goal…if I accept the challenge.

On the premise that this sort of activity will be beneficial to my cycling… has anyone got a program out there to get me on the way?

Try jumping in at the deep end…

    I’ll get my coat.

The whole thing is a deep end, it is in a reservoir. 🙂
