I didn’t know about this…. but there again, it looks like it will be gone soon as will the VAT exemption on ‘black beer’

which was originally claimed to have medicinal properties – nothing to do with its 8.5% proof-ness then!

Tax relief on breakfast for cyclists

Gordon Brown made a meal of this two-wheeled relief in his 2002 Budget while chancellor. It allowed those who cycled to work on a designated cycle-to-work day to enjoy a breakfast free of income tax and national insurance. The OTS has recommended it for the chop.

All a bit bizarre, I wonder if anyone actually knew it existed.

    as the cycling author of Which? Tax Guide, I knew about the breakfast deal. But I have yet to mee!! anyone who has had one!

    I have yet to meet anyone who has actually heard of it! It was probably hedged around with so many caveats and was of such little value that no one ever bothered to claim. I wonder whether there are any statistics for take up of this opportunity!
