Good luck!

One of the guys in the village recently announced that he was planning to ride around the coast (of all the British Isles) starting some time in April. It will be an unsupported ride to raise money for charity. A month or so ago, we had a chat about bikes as he hadn’t got one yet. In the end, he bought a Ridgeway something or other, which he rode home today. As a touring bike it looked the business, all the right sort of kit, solid, decent gear, nice relaxed angles etc. What worried me slightly (after he confessed he didn’t know how to change gear – quickly remedied) was that he plans to get fit on the ride as opposed to doing some decent, long distance,  preparation. He aims to ride 60-ish miles a day but on day 4 has a long day in the saddle. He is aiming for either 104 or 124 miles, the rationale being I have got all day and it is dead flat. I hope, for his sake, that there in no wind (unlikely on the coast) or that if there is, that it is at his back. It will be an awfully long haul otherwise, particularly as it is is so early on in the ride.

I have always thought about doing this sort of ride although I have always envisaged doing an off road version, if one exists. As it is, I am still suitably jealous.

Anyway, good luck Bob, I hope it all goes to plan.

Oh, in case anyone wondered, it is over 6,000 miles!!!
